There are a number of duplicates of Richard, but I would suggest we leave them separate for now. This is a difficult historical time, lacking good documentation, with different theories regarding his parentage, wives and children. As we find the tr uth we can start merging them, but for now please hold off... Richard Edwardes (also Edwards, 25 March 1525 – 31 October 1566) was an English poet, playwright, and composer; he was made a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, and was master of the singing boys. He was known for his comedies and interludes. Richard Edwardes was born in 1525 in Somerset to William Thomas Edwards and Agnes Blewitt. Some of Edwardes' descendants have claimed that his mother was a mistress of Henry VIII and that Richard was Henry's son, although there has not been evidenc e to prove this theory. Edwardes began his studies at Corpus Christi College, Oxford in May 1540 and joined Christ Church, Oxford as it opened in 1546. He joined Lincoln's Inn but did not take up law as a career. He joined the Chapel Royal by 1557 and was appointed Maste r of the Children in 1561. He married Helene Griffith in 1563. After he died in 1566, he was succeeded by William Hunnis. Postscript - There is no proof that shows that Richard Edwards was the son of Henry VIII - no matter how much some people would like to claim this relationship in their blood line. All we know for sure is that Richard's married parents at the time of his birth were William Thomas Edwards and Agnes Blewitt. Adding or detracting from this without written documented proof is heresay and rumor. Heresay and rumor are bad genealogy . Someday some evidence might come forth to show more regarding all this, but for now it's bad genealogy to add rumor to fact.
